Old Fashioned Bread Pudding – taste of the good old days.
It is a genius way to use left-over bread. The bread is soaked in the milk and eggs mixture. Then other ingredients are added, like raisins and other dried fruit, spices (like vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon) and liqueur (like rum, bourbon or whiskey). In the end it is all baked in the oven for about an hour.
Usually it is served with brandy butter sauce (hard sauce), rum sauce or custard sauce. Sometimes it can be served with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream or even maple syrup.
- 2 cups milk
- 5 tablespoons butter
- 6 cups cubed stale French bread
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 cup whiskey or rum
- 1/2 cup raisins soaked in whiskey for 2 hours
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
